A CASED PAIR OF 19th CENTURY PERCUSSION SAW-HANDLED TARGET OR DUELLING PISTOLS
With maker's name obscurely engraved to lock-plates and top flat of barrel, further scrolled foliate engraving to lock-plates, hammers and tigger guards, the barrels measuring approx. 12.4cm in length, steel ramrods suspended beneath, housed in a later fitted case lined in green baize, with accoutrements
The pistols are in good overall condition. Both hold half and full-cock well, with a strong hammer release. The cock on one pistol is considerably further forward than the other. Stocks are well patinated, with widespread nicks and bumps. Chips to protruding element of the saw-grips. There is a substantial loss to the stock of one pistol next to the metal ramrod housing. Triggers and trigger guards are tarnished.
Makers marks are indistinct and do not appear to be in English script.
F. Joyce & Co. label on the percussion cap tin is a facsimile. There are patches of surface rust to the bullet mould. Case is later and probably adapted from a cutlery canteen.
