After fiercely contested bidding at Great Western Auctions on Saturday 23rd of March, our fine FCB Cadell still life Dahlias soared to a hammer price of £220,000.
Managing director and auctioneer Anita Manning opened the bidding at £80,000, and the contest sparked into life immediately. The main action took place on two telephones, as Anita used £5k increments to steer the price ever upward over several minutes, thus ensuring it sold to full potential. The audience in the room were silent, breath bated, before erupting into applause as the hammer fell.
Anita Manning says:
“Scottish Colourist still life works remain in demand, with an international fanbase. They are fresh, modern-looking, instantly recognisable and have a universal appeal, a century on from being created.”
