Robert Leishman was born in Fife, and he was a draughtsman, painter and teacher. Leishman studied at the Edinburgh College of Art, and he was part of the notable generation of makers alongside William Gear and Alan Davie. Primarily working in watercolour, oil and gouache, his work is dreamlike, fantastical, utopian and sometimes a surreal depiction of the artist’s inner self. Notable exhibitions include the Scottish Gallery, Edinburgh, and the William Hardie Gallery, Glasgow.
