A LARGE CLASSICAL THEMED SHELL CAMEO IN A YELLOW METAL BROOCH/PENDANT MOUNT
depicting Hera and Zeus as an eagle, dimensions of the cameo 5.4cm x 4.2cm, dimensions of the brooch 6.8cm x 5.9cm. Weight 30gms
I have a suspicion that parts of this brooch are not gold. The plain surrounding wire, appears to be rolled gold or at best to have a metal inner core, as there are areas where this has peeled away, the engraved ribbon is too thin to acid test as is the mount surrounding the cameo, these look like gold and have behaved like gold when repaired in two places. The cameo is finely carved and has no cracks.
