A BRITISH FLINTLOCK NEW LAND PATTERN "BROWN BESS" MUSKET
The lockplate engraved "Tower" alongside crowned GR cipher, the barrel with proof marks near breech and measuring approx. 91cm in length (potentially shortened), the nicely patinated stock fitted with brass trigger guard and butt-plate

More Information

Musket holds half and full-cock well. Trigger has a lot of play. Hammer releases with a moderately forceful action. Jaw screw can be adjusted freely. Frizzen spring is quite loose.

Barrel is heavily patinated over its full length, with pitting towards breech. Lock-plate is similarly well-worn and pitted. The same is true for the other components of the mechanism. The muzzle shows uneven wear (suggesting the barrel may potentially have been cut-down). Ramrod is bent a little towards its flared end. Stock has a rich, dark patina, with a hairline split in evidence towards to muzzle. Light knocks throughout with multiple minor chips/losses. Brass butt-plate is likewise heavily worn, with deep dents.
