A George VI silver armada dish, by Reid & Sons, London 1936, inscribed to the base 'S.S. "Loch Don" Launched at Sunderland 10th May 1937. by The  Hon Mrs J.S.Maclay', further inscribed to the base rim 'With the Compliments of The North Eastern Marine Engineering Co Ltd', engraved 'M' to rim, 25.5cm diameter, 720gms / 23.14oz

The S.S Loch Don was a WWII cargo ship that was torpedoed by U-202 in 1942 and sunk in the Atlantic Ocean near Bermuda. Three of the 47 crew were killed. The survivors were rescued by Helen Forsey and brought to Burin, Newfoundland.
