A VICTORIAN DOUBLE-BARRELLED PERCUSSION PISTOL BY RICHARD BURNAND OF NEWCASTLE ON TYNE
The octagonal steel twin barrel engraved with maker's name along top surface, scrolled engraving to trigger guard, lock plate, hammers and butt plate, with chequered grip; the barrel measuring approx. 10cm in length; the pistol overall approx. 23.5cm
Both hammers hold half and full-cock securely. Both triggers are held firm within the mechanism and have a sensitive response. Hammers release with a smooth and powerful action, consistent between the two.
Overall mechanical condition is very good, with no play to any components. All metal elements are tarnished, with surface rust along top surface of barrels, to interior of trigger guard and hammers generally. Light knocks and scratches throughout, with multiple dents along barrel edges. One substantial nick to edge of trigger guard. Ramrod clicks back into place soundly. Stock is well handled and of dark patina. Knocks generally with a couple of minor chipped losses.
