A SILVER INLAID AND MOUNTED FLINTLOCK PISTOL BY WILLIAM WEEKES, LONDON
The maker's name engraved to brass lock plate, the brass barrel engraved "London" with corresponding proof marks, the silver butt plate hallmarked with Lion Passant, an apparent portrait head and maker's mark "M.B"; barrel measures approx. 15.5cm in length; the whole approx. 29cm
Lock mechanism functions well, holding half and full-cock securely. Trigger releases hammer with a forceful action. Trigger with a little play at all stages. The jaw screw turns freely. Frizzen moves smoothly and is held firmly by its spring.
The silver butt-plate is held slightly loose, with play. Tarnish generally to all metal components, with verdigris surrounding pan and muzzle. Knocks and scratches to brass barrel. Splits to wood near muzzle, with small chips and losses elsewhere. One more significant loss above butt end of lock-plate. Silver inlaid decoration on plain side is lifting in places, with a split near to centre. Multiple knocks to stock, consistent with age.
