A 19th CENTURY DOUBLE-BARRELED PERCUSSION MUZZLE-LOADING SPORTING SHOTGUN BY W. GREENER
The twin barrels measuring approx. 76cm in length, with brass-tipped ramrod housed beneath, the steel lockplates engraved "W. Greener" with scrolling embellishments, further engraving to hammers and breechplug, the stock with chequered grip
Both hammers hold half and full-cock well. Triggers with little to no play and a sensitive response. Hammers strike with considerable force.
Ramrod split towards flared end and again roughly midway along length. When inserted into one barrel, the rod comes to a soft stop, suggesting a blockage. Barrels are heavily tarnished, with surface rust to much of their top surface. Some pitting elsewhere. Interior of trigger guard is likewise rusted, with some light dents along edges. The stock is well-handled, with discolouration/blackening around grip/trigger area. Knocks and scratches throughout of varying severity. One area of significant loss to underside, at butt. Otherwise, wood appears free of cracks. Butt-plate heavily tarnished and pitted, with patches of light surface rust and one deep dent.
Rib is engraved "William Greener Maker Rifle Hill Works Birmingham".
