CRAIG CAMPBELL (SCOTTISH b.1960)
MY MYKOLAIV CITY OF TEARS & PRIDE
Oil on canvas, signed lower left, 152 x 91cm (60 x 36”)
MY MYKOLAIV CITY OF TEARS AND PRIDE symbolises and captures Ukraine’s struggle in the present humanitarian crisis. Campbell references the southern Ukrainian city, Mykolaiv, and the destruction, pain and loss to inhabitants, and their families, held hostage in their own country. The Cyrillic script to the upper right of the painting translates to ‘Myklolaiv Heroes’.
“I was compelled to create something that captured the pain and suffering of the people of Ukraine, especially the children, but most of all capture the strength and resolve of a very proud nation’ - Craig Campbell, artist
