A LATE 19TH CENTURY AMERICAN RETRACTABLE PROPELLING PENCIL BY W.S. HICKS
The cylindrical body of painted enamel, mounted with yellow metal, marked "Pat. March. 21. 71." above nib, measuring approx. 7cm in length when retracted
Overall condition is very good. Enamel has been hand-painted, rather than transfer-printed. Some light wear/scratching to surface visible when viewing through a loupe. Light wear to yellow metal collar, suggesting gold-plating. Pencil expands and contracts relatively smoothly, though please note that we cannot guarantee the functionality of mechanical items. Nib appears to be bent somewhat to one side but unscrews easily.
