Lacking title page but an apparently very early (possibly first) edition; with half title printed in green; preface by Dickens dated December 1843; page one headed "Stave I" - i.e. in Roman numeral rather than spelt out, later Staves are spelt out, i.e. "Stave Two" etc.; four coloured plates by John Leech (The Last of the Spirits is inserted loose); fully bound in gilt-ruled textured black leather, with gilt tooled and titled spine; ownership inscription to front endpaper - "Thomas Parkin Fulham, October 1845"
