The Hampshire born artist was educated at Marlborough College and also in Switzerland. He is a distinguished British artist, wood carver and sculptor. Initially pursuing further education in stained glass, Durst swiftly learnt that he was mesmerised by cathedral statues and architecture, and hence the fine craft of sculpting. He was a curator of the George Frederic Watts Museum in Compton, and went on to teach wood carving at the Royal College of Art. Notable exhibitions include the Leicester Galleries, London and the Royal Academy. Three of his works are now held in the permanent collection of the Tate Gallery, London.
Chips to bottom edges of plinth. Green mark to side of horses face, refer to images. Slight imperfections in the stone, roughness to tip and side of ears, and above signature. Some dirt and marking.
