Two leather tawses by John J. Dick of Lochgelly, one being the "XH" or Extra Heavy model (2)
XH tawse measures approx. 2ft in length, the lighter example about an 1/8" less. Both are well patinated. Both remain fairly supple, though the lighter tawse has a stubborn kink halfway along its length and will not lie flat. The XH tawse is torn at the point where it separates into two tails. There is what appears to be a white paint mark on the upper surface and the name "E. Black" inscribed in pen on the lower. There are also spots of blue ink/paint around the pierced hole. Both are generally scuffed and scratched. There is one deep gouge to the underside of the XH tawse.
XH tawse weighs 165g.
Lighter tawse weighs 123g.
