AN AFRICAN LEOPARD (PANTHERA PARDUS PARDUS) PELT
Measuring approx. 249cm from nose to tip of tail.
Killed by Ben Clayden, Chief Engineer to the Kenya and Uganda Railways and Harbours (later East African Railways and Harbours Corporation). During his tenure, Clayden was based in Kimusu and latterly Namasagali, serving also as Honorary Game Warden for the area. By family repute, the kill was made as part of a village protection operation undertaken in Uganda prior to the 1940s. It is believed that the length of the leopard constituted a world record at the time.
Note: photographs showing Clayden are provided for context only and are not included in the lot.
