A HANDMADE AFGHAN FLINTLOCK JEZAIL
The smooth-bore barrel measuring approx. 121cm in length and banded with white metal, the flintlock mechanism apparently iron and of rough construction, the stock having carved bone inlay; together with an Eastern (possibly Turkish) flintlock blunderbuss or musketoon, the barrel measuring approx. 42.5cm in length, the stock profusely geometrically inlaid with metal and bone (2)
Jezail is in rough overall condition. Mechanism is badly rusted and seized except for frizzen. trigger has become disconnected and hangs loose. Rust and corrosion the length of the barrel and to banding, with cracks and losses. Stock with multiple knocks and losses. Bone inlay is chipped and cracked in places. Ramrod is jammed in its housing.
Musket - butt-plate looks to be of fairly recent manufacture: other elements are of indeterminate age. Mechanism holds half and full-cock well, though hammer is stiff to pull back. Trigger rattles loose within mechanism but releases hammer well, striking forcefully. Frizzen moves cleanly between positions and is sound upon its spring. Barrel is rusted and pitted over its full length, both internally and externally, with knocks/gouges to top surface. Ramrod also with surface rust. Brass trigger guard is battered, with chips to edge. There is a break to the metal where it is affixed to the stock. Multiple chips and losses to stock inlay.
