A ZUNI PUEBLO POLYCHROME OLLA (WATER JAR)
the inner rim painted black, the top section painted with hachured connecting arches in black, the main body separated by two black bands, painted in black and orange hachured abstracted geometric designs on a creamy white slip base, the concave base painted black, 28cm wide, 16.5cm rim to rim, 19cm tall, late 19th century

there is natural ethnographic wear to the rim - these jars were used for storing water, the chips to the rim are from ladle use. Most chips are smooth though there are some newer chips - there are two hairline cracks emanating from the rim. A patina has developed and the slip has worn in places
