A VICTORIAN MOURNING LOCKET AND CHAIN
set with an old cushion cut diamond of estimated approx 0.85cts, the yellow metal locket has black enamel to both sides and to the bail, with a rose cut diamond set star motif and bail. Dimensions 3.2cm with bail x 2.3cm. approx weight 16.8gms. the decorative ribbon chain, made in yellow metal is 0.5cm wide x 45cm long. weight together 32.8gms
locket;- I have taken the diamond out before it fell out, three claws are missing, and it looks like someone has tried to fix this with lead at some point. this means I have been able to weigh the diamond properly at 0.85cts, my usual method of putting the dimensions through a computer program made it 0.81cts, but that will not be taking into account this is a hand cut diamond, and a bit fatter than usual. Enamel; There are a few chips that are full thickness, two of approx 1mm squared by the 'thumb nail' point and on the bail, with further related flakes, the rest light general dinks and scratches.
Chain; the chain is delicate, possibly not made to carry the weight of this locket, it has been professionally gold soldered in several places already and is wafer thin in places. Clasp good.
