Colonel Charles Louis Spencer DSO CBE (1870-1948).
Born to a merchant family in Glasgow, Spencer had a long association with the Lanarkshire Engineers, serving with the Royal Engineers as Lieutenant Colonel in France and Flanders during the First World War. He was thrice mentioned in dispatches and in 1918 was awarded the Distinguished Service Order.
