A CHINESE SILK AND METAL THREAD JACKET(XIAPEI)
woven with gilt metal threads of dragons chasing flaming pearls and with central 5th rank badge of a silver pheasant, 93 x 50cm
This jacket originally had a collar attached to it that was presumably added to fit the western taste - it has been removed. It has also been relined in white silk which is now very discoloured, the blue silk lining underneath is original but damaged. The buttons and clasps are not original and some of the coloured embroidery is of a later date (dragons eyes etc). Generally the jacket is distressed with some pulling to the gilt threadwork. The gold fabric lining is a later addition as the original can be seen underneath
