AN ARTS & CRAFTS PENDANT BROOCH
set throughout in white and yellow metal, craftsman made, and set with estimated approx 2.12cts of old cut diamonds. Dimensions of the brooch 3.2cm x 2.3cm, weight 10gms, in original box from P. Orr & Sons, Madras.
What is the size and color and clarity of the big diamonds in this piece?
A; I cannot give a full four C's report as I am not qualified to do so, but I can tell you what I can see.
Middle diamond approx 4.4mm x 4.4mm x 2.5mm = 0.30cts, two at approx 0.12cts and two at approx 0.15cts, all appear clean and bright both by eye, the three diamonds across the middle are the best, clean bright and few if any inclusions, the other two (north & south) have a few clear, crystal and feather inclusions, smaller diamonds also have these inclusions, plus a tiny bit of carbon, nothing eye visible, one has cleaved during setting, and has not been replaced, it is not easily noticed.. Overall the piece appears to be good quality with bright white colour diamonds.
Is there a makers mark on the piece?. Or is it just the box?
A;- There is no hallmark, or makers mark on the piece, only the fitted box bears the maker P. Orr & Sons.
Has hinged loop to take a bail, sadly this is missing, the pin mount unscrew for ease of wear. Early 20th Century., both brooch and box in good condition.
