Our Summer Fine Sale produced top results across all departments, signalling a strong, global appetite for fine works.

Pieces ranging from the 18th to 20th century achieved strong prices in our Furniture department.  A harpsichord dated 1797 achieved £1,094* and an earlier Italian commode chest made £540*. A 19th century Irish brass bucket charmed bidders, selling for £977*, while an impressive pine kitchen table of the same period sold for £772*.

 

In our 20th Century Design department, collectors pieces such as an Art Deco writing Bureau by Waring & Gillows and a White Star Line deck chair achieved £772* and £977* respectively.

Our Ceramics department had a strong start with a fabulous single owner collection of Whitefriars glass, grossing close to £8,000*. Building upon this momentum, an extensive Beswick collection featuring sought-after models by Colin Melbourne sold collectively for over £15,000*. Stylish clocks sparked bidder’s interests. A cuckoo clock and a piece by Marion Henderson Wilson both achieved  £1,674*, while a Chinoserie clock by Jaeger-Lecoultre sold for £4,894*.

Embroidered pieces took centre stage in our Collectables department. A biblical cross sold for £1,094*, while a Georgian sampler depicting Inverary Castle achieved over 8 times its bottom estimate, selling for £1,932*.

A fine collection of Japanese swords featured in our Militaria department. Two Naval officer’s Gunto swords sold for £1,030* and £1,094*, and a fine katana in near untouched condition achieved £4,508*.

Impressive five piece Victorian tea services sold well in our Silver department, selling for £2,318* and £2,254*. Novelty silver continues to attract serious bidding, with a silver lighter modelled as a hand grenade exploding to £2,833*. A wonderful pair of figural candelabra by renowned silversmith Patrick Mavros sold for £8,629*.

The top lot of day one was found in our Sporting department, where Rangers Legend Harold Davis’ medals sold for £18,032*.

Fine gold which featured in our Jewellery department produced strong results. An intricate. Chinese suite of jewels sold for £4,508*, while a sizeable mesh handbag achieved £5,924*. Quality diamonds continue to command high prices, with a vintage solitaire selling for £4,121*, and a five stone selling for £1,803*.  A rare Omega Pre Moon Speedmaster attracted international bidding in our Watches department, selling for £3,606*, while a platinum & diamond Rolex Perpetual Daydate sparked a fierce battle between phone bidders, selling for £15,456.*

Our Paintings department saw many bidders vying for top quality works. A quintessential city scene from L.S Lowry performed well, achieving £4,894*, while music superstar Bob Dylan’s work sold for £1,932*. Scottish Artists both contemporary and historic sold strongly. Stephanie Rew’s figural work sold for £2,576*, while Florence Jamieson’s effervescent still life sold for £1,228*. Elizabeth Mary Watt’s well-loved pixie works sold for £966. Colourist J.D Fergusson’s pencil studies achieved £1,674* and £1,932*, while Glasgow Boy Edward Atkinson Hornel’s charming depiction of children sold for £7,728*.
