Gordon McQueen of St. Mirren, Leeds Utd., Manchester Utd. and Scotland - His jersey, worn in the England v. Scotland match played at Wembley Stadium, 4th June 1977
Signed by McQueen to the number 5, framed under glass, with certification also signed by McQueen mounted beneath, the text reading "This is to certify that this jersey was worn by me, Gordon McQueen, at the England Scotland game Saturday 4th June 1977 at Wembley Stadium.", measuring approx. 76cm x 65.5cm externally; together with a framed black and white photograph taken during that game, also signed by McQueen and presented in a coordinating frame, measuring approx. 53cm x 43cm externally (2)

Note: The 1976-1977 British Home Championship Final was played at Wembley before a packed crowd numbering almost 100,000, the majority of whom were Scots. Gordon McQueen later said of the moment the players walked onto the pitch, “The place was a sea of tartan. I was walking alongside [England defender] Mick Mills and he said, ‘I can smell the whisky from here!’. There was an unbelievable atmosphere.”

McQueen scored the first of Scotland's two goals in the match, securing a 2-1 victory over their antagonists, and in so doing winning the Championship. The elated Scottish fans proceeded to invade the pitch, with a particularly exuberant few even scaling a set of goalposts, causing the crossbar to buckle under their weight, a moment recorded in now iconic photographs.

Provenance: Images show McQueen autographing the jersey. These are provided for context only and are not included with the lot.
